Managerial values across functions: a source of organizational problems

Article Abstract:

Organizational difficulties which may have their roots in differences in managerial values across functions are examined. The values of managers in personnel, finance, manufacturing, and marketing were surveyed. The results show several significant differences in values that could lead to organizational problems. However, there were also many similarities across functions which could be used to reconcile these differences.

Centralization of decision making and accountability based on gender

Article Abstract:

Superior-subordinate dyads with different gender combinations are examined. Female employees perceived themselves to have less influence on work decisions and were delegated less authority. Regardless of the gender of the manager or the industry studied, the perceptions of the female employees were the same. The implications of these results for the socialization and career advancement of female employees are discussed.
