Normalisation in an abnormal world: a study of prisoners with an intellectual disability

Article Abstract:

The article compares the characteristics and experiences of mentally handicapped offenders held within the mainstream prison system and those held in the secure unit of a forensic psychiatric hospital. The study concludes that the secure hospital, although not without disadvantages, appears better equipped to meet the needs of this disadvantaged group of offenders.

A neural network applied to criminal psychological profiling: an Italian initiative

Article Abstract:

A brief discussion of criminal profiling followed by an introduction to the Italian Neural Network for Psychological Criminal Profiling (NNPCP) project is presented. The NNPCP project is an innovative technique that would help in criminal profiling to single serious crimes through the use of computerized database.

Suicide in Italian prisons in 1996 and 1997: a descriptive epidemiological study

Issues discussed concern the risk factors for prisoner suicide in Italian prisons in 1996-97. Topics addressed include prisoner suicide statistic rates, mental and physical health risk factors, and diagnostic, environmental, and therapeutic guidelines for preventing suicide among prisoners.
