Perception without attention: results of a new method

Article Abstract:

An experiment on the perception of subjects under conditions of inattention is conducted. Grouping and texture segregation did not occur on conditions of inattention. Results showed that subjects perceived stimulus objects, their location and their colors but not their shapes. An effect called inattentional blindness, wherein subjects had no awareness of stimulus objects in conditions of inattention was also observed.

Contextual cueing: implicit learning and memory of visual context guides spatial attention

Article Abstract:

Context cueing is a vital process in visual activities. Context cueing refers to the use of past experiences to guide visual attention to targeted aspects of complex scenes. In an array of images, visual context can guide spatial attention directly to targeted items or spaces. Additionally, contextual cueing is acquired through incidental learning processes. It is also facilitated by memory-based mechanisms.
