Positive affect uniquely predicts lower risk of mortality in people with diabetes

Article Abstract:

The role of positive affect as a predictor of mortality risks in diabetics and in people with no chronic diseases is examined. Results showed that positive affect is related with lower risk of mortality among diabetics but in people without chronic illness, positve affect is not a predictor of mortality. The function of positive affect as stress-buffer is analyzed.

Relationship of subjective and objective social status with psychological and physiological functioning: preliminary data in healthy white women

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationships between subjective and objective measures of social status and health indicators in Caucasian women. Results indicate that perceptions of social status are more closely associated with health indicators like heart rate, body fat, and stress than objective measures of status like education or income level.

Misperceived risk among female adolescents: social and psychological factors associated with sexual risk accuracy

Article Abstract:

The urban female adolescents' sexual risk behavior is related to their perceived risk for HIV/AIDS. Accurate and inaccurate risk perceivers are compared with respect to psychological maintenance variables, relationship context variables, and risk knowledge of different levels of sexual risk.
