Processing threatening information in posttraumatic stress disorder

Article Abstract:

A modified version of the Stroop color-naming task with strong threat, mild threat, positive and neutral words to study the interpretation of threatening information by Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients involved in motor vehicle accidents. The PTSD patients showed higher interference on strong threat words than did simple phobia or low anxiety patients. The findings validate the previous results that PTSD subjects give more attention to potentially threatening information.
