Psychometric properties of the MacArthur Competence Assessment Tool - Criminal Adjudication

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to develop a new clinical instrument that can be used in the assessments of adult criminal defendants' competence to proceed to adjudication. The resulting instrument called the MacArthur Competence Assessment Tool-Criminal Adjudication assesses three competence-related abilities, namely, reasoning, appreciation and understanding. The new assessment tool was examined for ease of use and administration time. It is not recommended for people with IQ that fall below 60.

Psychometric properties of the MacArthur Competence Assessment Tool - Criminal Adjudication

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to characterize the development of a novel clinical instrument utilized in the evaluation of adult criminal defendants' ability to proceed to adjudication. Called the MacArthur Competence Assessment Tool-Criminal Adjudication, the instrument underwent a validation study sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health. Results indicated that the instrument supports good interrater reliability and internal consistency.

On the validity of validity scales: The importance of defensive responding in the prediction of institutional misconduct

Article Abstract:

The importance of defensive responding in the prediction of institutional misconduct among male inmates who completed the Personality Assessment Inventory is examined. The predictive validity of antisocial Features (ANT) scale with prisoners is demonstrated by the results which reinforces the importance of context when considering the validity of validity scales.
