Rapid recovery from anorexia nervosa after a life-threatening episode with severe thrombocytopenia: report of three cases

Article Abstract:

Three patients with anorexia nervosa who experienced severe thrombocytopenia rapidly recovered by means of administered water and nutritional supplements. Prior to treatment, all three refused to be hospitalized. When they finally agreed to be admitted, hemorrhagic tendencies were observed. Depleted platelet counts were noted as well as liver dysfunction. After the patients' recovery, their eating behavior made leading researchers conclude that the patients were healed physically as well as mentally.
