Returning to normality: Anomie and crime in China

Article Abstract:

The multiple regression analysis is used to explore the value change as manifested in the sense of anomie during the 1990s and sources of anomie in contemporary China. The results have concluded that the crime rates have remained relatively low even after many years of dramatic increase, and that China might not be able to maintain its tight control over politics forever.

Drug problems in China: Recent trends, countermeasures, and challenges

Article Abstract:

The latest trends of drug crimes in China, the countermeasures incorporated by the Chinese and the challenging problems that demand prompt solutions are analyzed. China has implemented various countermeasures and has received some promising results, but still needs to tackle the drug problems, as it lacks funding and accurate knowledge about prevalence of drug abuse.

Advancing institutional anomie theory: A microlevel examination connecting culture, institutions, and deviance

Article Abstract:

The robustness of institutional anomic theory (IAT) is tested by operationalizing IAT variables at the individual level and looking at a minor form of deviance, student cheating. Eight specific hypotheses derived from IAT and measured at the microlevel are presented.
