Scope and significance of posttraumatic symptomatology among women hospitalized for an eating disorder

Article Abstract:

A study of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptomatology among women suffering from eating disorders reveals that posttraumatic symptoms are common among women with eating disorders. Of the 294 sample of women with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and other disorders who participated in the study, a total of 154 were discovered to have PTSD symptomatology. Nevertheless, the intensity of the symptomatology was not associated with either type of eating-disorder or severity of anorexic or bulimic symptomatology. The PTSD symptomatology was related to depression, anxiety and dissociative experiences.

Assessing Dissociative symptoms in eating disordered patients: construct validation of two self report measures

Article Abstract:

The Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) and the Trauma Symptom Checklist-40 (TSC-40) are found to be reliable tools for diagnosing disassociation often found in patients with eating disorders. One hundred and twenty-five women with various types of eating disorders were interviewed using DES and TSC-40 methodologies and a strong correlation of the results with further test results was found. Further research is recommended.

Validating a multidimensional model of the psychopathology of bulimia nervosa

Article Abstract:

A study of 497 women suffering from bulimia nervosa using the LISREL 7 program to investigate the validity of the model described by Gleaves, Williamson and Barker supports the hypothesized four dimensional model of bulimia nervosa. The results indicate self-injurious behaviors as a different dimension of bulimia nervosa and underscores the need for multidimensional assessment.
