Self-efficacy and compliance with benzodiazepine taper in older adults with chronic insomnia

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted which examines whether perceived self-efficacy (SE) in achieving weekly medication reduction goals differed, at each treatment week, between individuals who were compliant with their weekly goal and those who discontinued their hypnotics and those who did not. The results have important clinical implications as SE might indicate key time points when patients are experiencing more difficulty during discontinuation.

Psychological functioning, support for self-management, and glycemic control among rural African American adults with diabetes mellitus type 2

Article Abstract:

A sample of 200 African American adults with type 2 diabetes was interviewed on their depressive symptoms, optimism levels, self-esteem levels and the quality of support they receive from their support persons. Results indicate that psychological functioning is related to support for self-management while support is related to glycemic control. The role of patients's sources of support in their health is analyzed.
