Survey investigations of the hidden economy: some methodological results

Article Abstract:

An analysis on the use of survey research in studies of the hidden economy is presented. To determine the survey type that would produce the best results, eight methods varied according to interview-interface and in the sequence and phrasing of questions were employed. These were then evaluated based on a number of criteria regarding their ability to obtain statistical data on the labor market. It was found that face-to-face techniques produced the most suitable results. In addition, it was found that the topic 'hidden income' should be introduced gradually, to minimize incorrect responses.

Investigating spousal inconsistencies in temporal reports: a methodological framework

Article Abstract:

A measurement of temporal orientation was developed and the procedure using Mahalanobis generalized distances, D(2), compared the responses between husband and wife, including a third party for comparison purposes. Extensive statistical analyses are employed, and several graphical methods are used to represent the statistical results. Lastly, sets of empirical data validated the procedure which is promising in the investigation of dyadic relationships.
