It is proposed that family size as a choice model is a vital component of economic models. The advantages and disadvantages of having children are examined, as well as how these issues fit in with economic theories of household choice. Respect, admiration, aggrandizement: Adam Smith as economic psychologist

Article Abstract:

The differences between respect, admiration and aggrandizement are studied based on economist Adam Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments. It is argued that respect differs from admiration since it involves an intra-individual evaluation of performance while admiration involves the inter-individual ranking of capabilities. It is also shown that aggrandizement is a distortion of both respect and admiration.
