Aspects of autism in Japan before and after the introduction of TEACCH

Article Abstract:

This article provides an evaluation of the TEACCH (treatment and education of autistic and related communication handicapped children) program, developed to help people with autism and their family members, in Japan. The author discusses the positive and negative responses the program received, and maintains the results have been so successful that groups attempting to hinder its spread are losing power.

The adoption of TEACCH in Northamptonshire, UK: a unique collaboration between a voluntary organization and a local authority

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the Education, Social Services, and Health agencies of the United Kingdom working with voluntary organizations to address health care regarding autism. Together they implemented the TEACCH (treatment and education of autistic and related communication handicapped children) program, and improvements in diagnosis and assessment have resulted, as well as overall care and understanding of autism.

Applying TEACCH in developing autism services in Spain: the GAUTENA project

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the differences of the TEACCH (treatment and education of autistic and communication handicapped children) program and the GAUTENA (Gipuzkoa Autism Society) project in the Basque region of Spain. The author maintains that the key differences are GAUTENA's involvement of psychiatry, fundraising practices, and GAUTENA's approach to community, though the overall philosophy is the same.
