The adult life course and homosexual identity in midlife gay men
Article Abstract:
Most gay men change their participation in gay sexual culture over time, particularly at midlife. Factors influencing this behavior include socialization and psychological processes, the HIV epidemic, and changes in social tolerance of homosexuality.

The 20th century was the first in which sexuality no longer depended on conjugality. Conjugal sex life nevertheless remains an ideal point from which to observe how gender relations and roles shape the sexual conduct of women and men.
