The case for evidence-based psychotherapy treatment guidelines

Article Abstract:

Arguments for the development of psychotherapy treatment protocols are discussed. Psychotherapy can survive in a managed care environment only if evidence-based treatment guidelines are formulated. Numerous problems have to be surmounted in carrying out this task but its completion is very valuable. Psychotherapists must use clinically-controlled trials to document the effectivity of treatment procedures they prescribe to patients.
