The co-occurrence of spouse and physical child abuse: a review and appraisal

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to analyze 42 studies on the co-occurrence of spouse and physical child abuse. Results indicated that the rate of co-occurrence across the US population is about 6% based on a limited database. However, the median co-occurrence rate for child abuse was about 40% within a stratified sample of violent homes. Findings also suggested the need for careful evaluations when deciding child custody or visitation cases.

Parenting influences from the pulpit: Religious affiliation as a determinant of parental corporal punishment

Article Abstract:

Religious affiliation as a source of differences in beliefs about the use of corporal punishment was examined. Conservative Protestants reported more use of corporal punishment than parents of other religious groups, and their belief in the benefits of corporal punishment was linked to their frequency of use. Conservative Protestant religious affiliation appears to have a strong and consistent effect on child rearing.
