The course of DSM-III-R schizopreniform disorder

Article Abstract:

A study compared the progress of 36 patients diagnosed with either DSM-III-R schizophreniform disorder or schizophrenia, contrasting their symptoms of psychosis and interpersonal and occupational role functioning 3.5 to 4.0 years after their first hospitalization. Results indicate distinct courses of illness for the two disorders. Schizophreniform disorder patients had low negative symptoms at both follow-ups. The higher initial level of negative symptoms exhibited by schizophrenics decreased over time.

Object relations and social functioning of schizophrenic and borderline patients: a cross-sectional developmental perspective

Article Abstract:

A study used cross-sectional design to compare ratings for social functioning and object relations for schizophrenic patients and those with borderline personality disorders. Results indicate that the borderline group had higher measures of object relations. However, over the long term, schizophrenic patients adapted better than borderline patients in terms of social functioning.
