The influence of children's self-report trait anxiety and depression on visual search for emotional faces

Article Abstract:

Research on target identification trials shows that higher anxiety levels in children produced faster search times in identifying angry-face symbols, but not neutral ones. Anxiety was also linked to searches for happy-face symbols in absent trials. Depression was found to have no effect on search times for any of the three face symbols. This study supports prior evidence between a child's anxiety levels and attention to threat.
