The assessment of body image investment: an extensive revision of the Appearance Schemas Inventory

Article Abstract:

The Appearance Schemas Inventory (ASI), a 14-item instrument that assesses body image investment in relation to certain assumptions about the importance, meaning and influence of appearance in once life is reviewed. The result led to a revision of the inventory (ASI- R), which included Self Evaluative Salience and Motivational Salience.

The nature and extent of body-image disturbances in anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa: a meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

A meta-analysis of existing research on body image and eating disorders was conducted to examine the parameters of body image of women suffering from anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. A review of 60 studies conducted between 1974 and 1993 indicates that women with clinical eating disorders experience greater body image dissatisfaction and perceptual body-size distortion than women free from these conditions.
