The variance reaction time model

Article Abstract:

The variance reaction time model (VRTM) is proposed to account for various recognition data on reaction time, the mirror effect, receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves. VRTM can predict the mirror effect for low and high frequency words and the appropriate means and distributions of reaction times for high and low frequency items.

Simple reaction time and statistical facilitation: a parallel grains model

Article Abstract:

The development of a race-like model, in which many parallel grains of information are stimulated, and are noticed when they reach a decision center, explains diverse facts emerging during simple reaction time (RT) tasks. With the help of statistical facilitation, the various stimuli effects on mean simple RT are established.

Statistical clustering and the contents of the infant vocabulary

Article Abstract:

Infants parse speech into word-sized units according to biases developed in the first year like clustering syllables that tend to co-occur. This statistical clustering bias could lead to extraction of speech sequences that are actual words and not missegmentations.
