The yin and yang of behavioral analysis

Article Abstract:

Ilan Golani presents a geometrical analysis of the relationship of the trunk to the base of support in view of several social and nonsocial behaviors. This analysis reveals a mobility gradient deemed to be inherent in vertebrate movement. It also suggests that behavior is a product of the inherent properties of structure and organization. Another view is presented which concerns the relationship of movement to functional consequences. It was shown that the structure and function of behavior contains an element of complementarity and thus, each element exists in the presence of the other.

Human observation and human action

Article Abstract:

The Eshkol-Wachman movement notation provides a system of describing animal behavior which is not merely descriptive but both productive and generative. This characteristic enables the system to adjust to new developments in the understanding of human motor organization. The EW approach provides dynamic analysis which transforms the display of action sequences into a flow of information coming from the expansion and contraction of the space phases of theri component movement systems.

Time-based objective coding and human nonverbal behavior

Article Abstract:

Ilan Golani presents a methodological approach in arriving to a hypothesis concerning vertebrate behavior. A clarification of Golani's human application of time-based objective coding is attempted to facilitate understanding of human social interactions. It was suggested that the methods presented by Golani should be considered on the basis of a broader framework to clearly explain the complexity of human noverbal communication.
