Towards a model of suicidal ideation for Hong Kong Chinese adolescents

Article Abstract:

An upward trend in suicide rate among Hong Kong adolescents is a major cause for concern and therefore, a study intended to investigate the simultaneous relationships of family relationships, school support and peer support to suicidal ideation, as well as the mediating relationships of self-esteem and depression is conducted. Within the adolescents' psychological system feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness are contributory to depression, which leads to suicidal thoughts as a way out.

Parenting and adolescent self-regulation

Article Abstract:

The relationship between adolescents' academic and non-academic self-regulation, authoritative parenting and parent self-efficacy in different areas is examined. It was found that strict parenting and the granting by parents of psychological autonomy to their adolescent children did not appear to be important in the development of young people's self-regulatory behaviors.
