What works in adult sex offender treatment? A review of prison- and non-prison-based treatment programs

Article Abstract:

The article evaluates 21 prison- and non-prison-based treatment programs and concludes that treatment programs incorporating a cognitive-behavioral approach work best and that non-prison-based sex offender treatment programs are effective in limiting future criminal activity. There were not enough studies on particular types of sex offenders to permit any conclusions about the effectiveness of programs for various sex offender typologies.

The stabilization of self-esteem among incarcerated adolescents: accommodative and immunizing processes

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the impact custodial sentencing has on juvenile self-esteem. The author argues that self-esteem depends on an individuals ability to cope at both an accommodative and immunizing level, and if an incarcerated juvenile lacks these coping mechanisms they generally have low self-esteem, which will become lower during incarceration.
