Work and gender issues in secure juvenile delinquency facilities

Article Abstract:

Juvenile detention facilities tend to be gender-segregated not only in terms of inmate population but also staff. Testing confirms that such segregation has an impact on staff quality of work life. One example of gender effects comes in how people cope with job stress. Women have a greater tendency to cope on the job, while men bring job problems home to their families. As in other fields, female careers are less linear than male ones. Other differences are discussed.

Comparison of early and late start models of delinquency in adult offenders

Article Abstract:

A comparison of early- and late-start offenders shows the former to be linked to poor parental supervision and discipline, which provides reinforcement to early antisocial behaviors generalizing to other situations and times, while the latter is more likely to be caused by deviant peer groups. Such studies have implications for treatment and rehabilitation services and for early developmental crime prevention programs.
