Young children's difficulty acknowledging false belief: realism and deception

Article Abstract:

The presentation of a physical real instantation of a false belief makes it easier for young children, to a small but nonetheless reliable extent, to correctly report that belief. This was found in a study of the circumstances under which children acknowledge a false belief held by another person. Results reveal that most children still reported what they themselves knew to be real when it was appropriate to acknowledge a false belief.
