The effects the changed book trade has had on modern consumption and the reading of books in Sweden are addressed. It is believed that the Swedish Internet world requires its average customer to be able to read any book in English and to spend money on them rather than on a book in Swedish, that would be easier, for most of them, to read.

The genesis of Online Information eXchange (ONIX) are examined and the challenges it faces are analyzed. It is felt that market players need to determine the cost versus benefit and as long as distributors and retailers agree on receiving other formats, ONIX would never tale a strong hold in the marketplace.
