Collection development in support of a global information network: A case study of LEISA: Low External Input And Sustainable Agriculture

Article Abstract:

A study is presented to show the way by which the Centre for Information on Low External Input and Sustainable Agriculture (ILEIA) has contributed to the development oriented magazine for farmers by collecting and exchanging experiences on LEISA. The process is found to be successful and has maintained its capacity to continue the strategic collection of grey literature.

Electronic reprints of freelance works: New York Times v. Tasini

Article Abstract:

The US Supreme Court ruled in 2001 that freelance writers had the right to be paid when their articles were used in commercial databases without their consent. Freelancers will continue to be important resources for publishers and copyright law needs to continue protecting writers' incentives to create.

Publish or perish: clock is ticking for unpublished works

Article Abstract:

On Jan. 1, 2003, billions of works currently under copyright protection will enter the public domain. The Copyright Act permits the possibility of extend copyright for 2003 or post-2003 works, but the deadline is near and inflexible.
