Desktop design awards

Article Abstract:

The San Francisco earthquake of 1989 hit during the judging of Publish! magazine's Desktop Design Awards. The Grand Prize is the complete Linotype library of PostScript typefaces, valued at $10,000, that includes all current and future fonts. The Runner-up receives a Microtek MSF-300Z Color/Gray scanner. Entries were judged on the overall quality of communication. Type treatment, editorial content, layout, use of color and concept were all considered. Desktop publishing technology and design aesthetics were weighed equally. Extra points were awarded to those who stretched the technology beyond its conventional limitations. The Grand Prize is awarded to Marieke Muskens and Miguel Gori of Holland for their design of a scarf for Esprit de Corp. The runner-up is J-M Antenen of Switzerland for the original, eclectic book, 'La Derniere Pomme Frite.'
