Inside Report

Article Abstract:

The media is making too much of Apple's bad financial news. Speculation by stockholders, analysts and industry observers suggests possibilities ranging from mergers or buyouts to the company's demise. A result of all of this has been the ouster of Apple CEO Michael Spindler, who will be replaced by Gilbert Amelio. The media's excitement is not warranted. Apple is a $10 billion company, and it sells more than 4.7 million computers a year. It has superior technology and customer loyalty, and it dominates in several market segments. For example, Apple dominates in the publishing and media industries, and the company is firmly committed in those areas. The idea that Apple is going to be absorbed or go out of business is ridiculous. In fact, this could be an especially good time to buy an Apple computer. The company is overstocked with inventory and is reacting to negative media attention by offering generous rebates.

Building a framework for success

Article Abstract:

Aaron Marcus and Assoc (AMA) graphic designers Kent Miller and Aaron Marcus found that Frame Technology's FrameMaker document-oriented desktop publishing software was the appropriate tool for designing electronic templates and documentation that would enable HP employees to produce more effective and graphically consistent presentations. HP wanted to ensure that its corporate identity standards were maintained throughout employee presentations made with HP's own Drawing Gallery, Aldus Persuasion and Lotus Development's Freelance Graphics and Ami Pro. Lead designer Miller determined that FrameMaker was the best software for performing the complex formatting of three different versions of the required material while providing the automation needed to meet deadlines and implement last-minute revisions.
