Posters of compassion: SOS-Kinderdorf

Article Abstract:

SOS Kinderdorf, founded in 1949 by Hermann Gmeiner, provides housing for children in an untraditional setting. The original concept has led to the founding of more than 260 SOS children's villages around the world. Although the children are placed in homes by each host government, the homes receive no financial support from them and rely on private donations. To help raise funds, the organization's publicist, Rainer Damm, and his employer, the SchwaigerWinschermann design firm, solicited posters about the SOS concept from 17 artists and designers around the world. Photographs are included.
