Scholz and Friends: Bridging East and West in the New Berlin

Article Abstract:

The advertising agency that ultimately became Scholz and Friends Berlin was founded by Sebastian Turner, Thomas Heilmann and Olaf Schumann a few months after the fall of the Berlin Wall. They were eager to take advantage of the promising post-reunification market in Eastern Germany. In Feb 1991 the partners struck a deal with Hamburg-based Scholz & Friends, establishing Scholz & Friends Dresden. The agency soon moved to Berlin.

Gen X marks the spot; young creatives are tapping realism and nostalgia to reach their peers

Article Abstract:

Advertising agencies such as Bozell Worldwide and Foote, Cone & Belding are winning major accounts because their designers know how to target Generation X consumers. Most conspicuously, they produce clips that play off Generation X attitudes like cynicism toward advertising and demand for the unadulterated truth. Not surprisingly, these designers are increasingly coming out of the generational bracket they are targeting.
