A return to core values

Article Abstract:

The UK government is making considerable efforts to promote town centre redevelopment, but only 1.77 million sq ft of town centre shopping centre space was under development in Dec 1994. A large part of the total shopping centre floorspace under construction at present is in phases or extensions of existing schemes, and there are very few totally new developments. Developers are still attracted by the facilities and cost advantages offered by out-of-town sites.

Turning up the pressure

Article Abstract:

Norwich Union's St Nicholas Centre has not taken large numbers of shoppers away from Sutton High Street, but Norwich Union is now making considerable efforts to let more space. The High Street has benefited from a number of environmental improvements, and seems to have the right mix of stores to attract shoppers. No retailer has yet left the High Street for the St Nicholas Centre.

Building up a bottom drawer

Article Abstract:

Leading companies are keen to set up distribution and administrative centres in the mid-Cheshire area to serve the north west. However, there is very little space available, and the area does not yet have a major business park. However, a number of developments are now underway, including Gadbrook Park on the outskirts of Northwich and Wharton Park at Winsford.
