Bank statement

Article Abstract:

UK bank Halifax is committed to the town of Halifax, England, where it was founded. It employs 3,500 people in the borough, and is the largest employer there outside the public sector. It has a number of buildings in the town, including its former HQ, a 2,788 sq mt building situated above the first Halifax branch in the town centre. There is very little scope for further expansion in Halifax, so any new properties will have to be outside the town. It is unlikely to become involved in property investment, even though it can do so now that it is no longer bound by building society regulations.

Chill in the air

Article Abstract:

Some local agents in North East England suggest there are signs the area will continue to be prosperous despite the decline in the economy, as several firms make workers redundant. Others are looking towards the launch of the Regional Development Agency for the North East, in Apr 1999, which will use grants and other funding to pay for regeneration work in the area. The Teesside Development Corporation and the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation spent more than 800 million pounds sterling of public money in the area which led to about 3 billion pounds sterling in private investment.

Fair way to go

Article Abstract:

Educational suppliers GLS Fairway has been able to expand its services into the UK Midlands since moving to new premises in Enfield in 1994. The company, which is the largest UK educational supplier, was formed when London authorities privatised their suppliers in 1991. It initially operated from an old Tottenham warehouse but needed to reduce the size of its building for increased efficiency. The company decided to go for a design and build operation and, after much consideration, chose the site in Enfield for its good communications access.
