Article Abstract:

Cardiff Bay is experiencing a variety of new development projects on its 500 acre site. Cardiff Bay was formally a port and industrial area which was in need of regeneration. A leisure facility is being constructed at Atlantic Wharf to include a cinema and a nightclub. A business village is being developed at the renovated Coal Exchange building for 20 million pounds sterling. Two speculative industrial buildings have been built at Ocean Park. A new rail and road network will provide easier transportation for the area. A 136-room hotel is being built for 15 million pounds sterling.

Bridgend, South West Wales, has experienced increasing demand for both leasehold and freehold industrial space. Office rents are increasing as the demand grows slowly. A new 35 million pounds sterling shopping facility is being built on the outskirts of town. The centre of Swansea, Wales, is undergoing a gradual program of refurbishment, with the Castle Quays area waiting for redevelopment. The town centre of Llanelli, Wales, has been renovated at a cost of 15 million pounds sterling whilst the authorities in Carmarthen, Wales, have undertaken a review of town facilities.

Demand for housing in British cities is growing from a number of sectors. Although some observers point out a way to keep families in the city centres must be found, such as offering good educational facilities for their children. A number of firms are leasing apartments in the city in preference to putting their employees in hotels. Some older people are using their excess capital to purchase property in the cities for investment purposes. Many young people wish to live in the cities. Demand is particularly high in Manchester, England.
