Growing pains

Article Abstract:

High Wycombe, UK, and Aylesbury, UK, are both due to undergo radical expansion under their respective local plans. High Wycombe council hopes two business parks will be built in the town, although some estate agents criticise the allocated sites as inappropriate. Seventy-five percent of the planned new housing in Aylesbury will be in the town itself, with local people heavily opposed to new housing development around the nearby village of Haddenham.

Workers' housing needed

Article Abstract:

Milton Keynes, UK, expects to benefit from the government's requirement for increased housing and anticipates further expansion of the town will follow. Increased residential development could allow the commercial property market to expand also, with the distribution and industrial sectors having seen rental increases of 20% during 1998. Capital and rent values are expected to maintain growth in Milton Keynes despite a downturn in the economy.
