Beyond compliance: managing environmental risk

Article Abstract:

Mere compliance with regulations is no longer an acceptable strategy. Although necessary, compliance should only be a part of a company's environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs. The trend towards proactive environmental management works on the premise that EHS programs can actually contribute to corporate profit margin by upgrading the company's image. Transition from traditional to proactive management can be accomplished logically and satisfactorily through strategic environmental planning. The process involves defining goals, assessing current EHS progams and laying out an actual plan.

Sale/leasebacks: are they right for your company?

Article Abstract:

A corporation engages in sale/leaseback transactions to pursue financial aims. The transaction allows the corporation to get cash value for its valuable property without surrendering entire control over it. Varying reasons such as the need to show increased productivity through asset sale and the prevention of a takeover by another corporation compel corporations to resort to the transaction. As a financing scheme, the sale/leaseback transaction could be assured of success if all economic and accounting angles are carefully explored beforehand.
