Brownfield share-out

Article Abstract:

Distributors at a debate with planning experts suggested a major problem for their industry was gaining good access to urban distribution centres. They pointed out some brownfield sites may be suitable for smaller firms particularly those involved with electronic commerce. But the very large distribution centres, such as the one at Magna Park, which comprises of 7.7 million sq ft, could not be built in urban areas. Opening centres near housing often causes conflict over noise. Some distributors pointed out they often find they have to compete with housing developers for suitable sites.

Eyes on the brownfield prize

Article Abstract:

UK housing developer Crest Homes has claimed its effective but well designed use of previously used land or brownfield sites is the way forward for housing developers in the UK. Crest is to transform a former paper mill and navy college site into a development of 750 units, close to the newly built Bluewater shopping centre in Kent. The new site will benefit from improved rail and road links throughout the region, making ideal for those wishing to live in the country but work in the city.
