Busy signal: the explosive growth of call centers

Article Abstract:

Big factors in selecting sites for call centers are the availability and quality of labor. Due to its nature, 60% to 70% of call center location costs are attributed to labor. Call center of the outgoing kind as not as sensitive to staffing as inbound call centers, which require a pool of knowledgeable staff. Inbound call centers are usually located in college towns or cities. Labor costs are secondary to the quality of labor in an area. Selecting a building for call centers is also crucial since these buildings must provide enough space for workers. Typical call centers can have staffs numbering 400 working in multiple shifts. This large number of employees must be near parking facilities and dining establishments to satisfy site requirements.
