Management of Conflict

Article Abstract:

All companies experience interdepartmental conflicts. These conflicts can be positive or negative, depending on the method management uses. Autocratic management, personality clashes, and out of hand strikes can be negative. Understanding of departmental needs, allowance of employee tension release, and appraisal of methods are positive. Induction training and cross-training allows employees to learn the methods of other departments. Task forces and management by objectives allows all departments to work towards a common goal.

Exclusion of journalism professor's 'scientific' testimony proper: trial judge found reputational damage calculations unscientific, unhelpful

Article Abstract:

The Montana Supreme Court affirmed a trial court's ruling excluding evidence at a libel trial in Kurth v. Great Falls Tribune Co. The court deemed the exclusion of a journalism professor's 'scientific' method for determining libel damages proper and not an abuse of judicial discretion. The court also affirmed the limited damages award of the lower court.
