City speculates on MEPC's future

Article Abstract:

UK property company MEPC's failed merger discussions with prospective buyer Hammerson has prompted investment analysts to anticipate further negotiations in the City. MEPC has performed poorly in recent months. Its net asset value dropped by seven pence to 4.50 pounds sterling in Dec 1997. Company attempts to persuade shareholders of its bright future have been unconvincing. Many believe that former finance director Jim Beverage should not have left the company.

MEPC rethinks global strategy

Article Abstract:

MEPC is increasingly concerned about the future of European property markets, and has therefore decided to focus on the US and Australia, selling off its 167 million pounds sterling continental European portfolio. This is a change from the company's previous strategy, which aimed to increase the share of European holdings in its total property assets from 5% to 20%. The properties will be sold individually or as a portfolio.
