Article Abstract:

The harmonious management and labor union relationship in Germany is due to the concept of co-determinism or employer-employee partnership. It was introduced by the North Rhine-Westphalia coal and steel industry after World War II. The German work structure is composed of the trade union and the employer's association, which are concerned with collective bargaining for wages and working conditions and the works council and the company, which are concerned with the welfare of the workforce and plant.

Nearly all of the Caribbean nations actively promote economic diversity and industrial development to attract foreign investment, especially from the US. A key factor in attracting investment is the further development of free trade zones, which offer low-cost labor and substantial tax, tariff and other incentives. Many Caribbean countries can also offer lucrative connections to European Community markets via various trade agreements.
