Designs on modern shoppers

Article Abstract:

Many British city-centre shopping centres are outdated and poorly managed. Customers are often critical about the facilities and the total environment of the centres. Shopping centre owners are facing strong competition from the new out-of-town shopping centres and retail parks. Town centre shopping operations need to be renovated and additional services offered to customer, such as entertainment and better catering outlets. The ambience of the building can be improved by construction permanent banners to cover poorly designed buildings and by making better use of any open areas.

A laboured renaissance

Article Abstract:

The UK Urban Task Force has been trying to confront inherent problems within the planning system by putting forward their ideas on how changes could be made to the system to help urban renewal initiatives. The Task Force has included its proposals in the Urban Task Force Report issued in Jun 1999. The Task Force has expressed its concern over the length of time development plans take in the system which often means they are no longer relevant to the situation. The plans should support developers in their urban renewal projects yet allow local people to give their opinions.
