Hot-wire your distribution network for better location decisions, improved operations

Article Abstract:

A careful evaluation of the existing distribution network is vital in determining the most ideal network for a company upgrading its distribution operations. The latter step is done by computer simulation or finding the focal point in distribution system that is best applicable to current and future growth trends. Site selection for the distribution facility is then guided by several factors which are determined by the chosen distribution network design. Lastly, the entire process should be rightly executed and aimed at the fastest delivery of the product to its user at the least cost.

Strategic master planning: a distribution imperative

Article Abstract:

A distribution strategic master plan should be adequately developed and updated to reduce costs and improve customer service. The plan should include the ideal but realistic components of a logistics network that would provide customers with the proper goods at the right time and place with minimum costs. It should also have specific tested actions that would meet forecasted sales, inventory levels, transportation costs and warehouse expenses. A good distribution plan also has a definite end point afterwhich assessment and appropriate improvements may be made.

A major REIT is not too heavy to ride the e-commerce wave

Article Abstract:

Prologis COO John W. Seiple believes that providing Internet-based customer service would play an integral role in determining the company's long-term success. By forging a contract with Amazon.com, Prologis has capitalized on the use of electronic commerce in expanding its customer base domestically and internationally. ProLogis also acquired adequate leverage from its merger with Meridian Industrial Trust, which made the company one of the largest industry players in the distribution facilities market.
