Keep on rolling

Article Abstract:

The UK printing industry is experiencing increasing sales amounting to 9 billion pounds sterling annually which has allowed many companies to retain their staff. To continue to expand their business many companies will need to invest in new technological equipment particularly as some customers are using their own resources to print documents. The flotation of many building societies has helped to increase trade, and the growing use of direct mailing, as a marketing ploy, has also improved business prospects. Some 160,000 workers are employed in the UK printing industry.

Land deal threatens Korean investment

Article Abstract:

A 1.7 billon pounds sterling deal to develop semiconductor and television production plants in Newport, South Wales, by the Korean company LG is under threat. The development which would bring 6,000 new jobs to the area had been heavily subsidized by the Welsh Development Agency leading to the possibility of formal censure from the European Union. Disputes over land ownership and accusations of lack of consultation with local services has caused further dissention. LG was formerly called Lucky Goldstar.

Healthy prognosis soothes nerves

Article Abstract:

Despite healthy economic growth in England's East Midlands, many businesses in the region believe that recovery from the recession is stagnating and few are working at full capacity. The region's manufacturing base remains strong and it has many small companies, but its dependence upon waning industries, such as textiles and coal, means that there is little inward investment. An analysis of the economic health of the region is presented.
