Article Abstract:

NTL UK Group Incorporated is planning to move into a 50,000 sq ft building which is being built on the Celtic Gateway business park, Cardiff Bay, Wales. The management chose to move to the new offices for a number of reasons, such as the availability of fibre-optic cabling, an earth satellite link and financial inducements from the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation. The building should be ready by Aug 1998. NTL UK is part of the CableTel Incorporated company based in the US. The company is involved in providing cable television, business telephony and Internet services.

Listening and learning

Article Abstract:

Call centers currently employ between 200,000 and 250,000 people in the UK, and this level is set to rise to 500,000 by 2003. Recent research indicates that the nature of call centres will probably change, with a shift towards greater automation. The growing penetration of the Internet, digital television and electronic mail will also turn call centers into multimedia facilities. Another key trend will be the growing involvement of call centers in telesales.
