Marketable opinions

Article Abstract:

Experts from the UK leisure and retail sectors debated the issues connected with mixed leisure and retail developments. The agreed that the two concepts go naturally together, and that the success of developments is enhanced by customers being able to meet all their needs on one site. However, the important issue is to have a good mix offering a total experience, and not to introduce leisure for its own sake or to support an ailing retail centre. Some experts said that shopping is a leisure activity and forecasted that, by 2001, 90% of leisure activity will focus around retailing.

Tying up new contacts

Article Abstract:

The MAPIC retail property conference, to be held in Cannes, France, on Nov 18-21, 1995, will give retailers a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences of various markets across the world. It will be attended by representatives from companies including Tie Rack. This company is already an international retailer, with stores in 25 countries, but feels that it can still benefit from the experiences of other companies, especially as all markets are different.
