Mix and match

Article Abstract:

Crosby Homes is promoting its Symphony Court residential development in Birmingham as benefiting from the close proximity to Argent's Brindleyplace mixed office, retail and leisure scheme. More developers are seeing the benefits of mixed use developments, particularly as the residential side helps to make scheme commercially viable and gives a balanced development. Mixed use was used in the master plan for Milton Keynes, with the aim of avoiding out-commuting or in-commuting.

From workspace to living place

Article Abstract:

Many different types of buildings are now being considered for possible conversion to residential use. These include warehouses, hospitals and offices. The fall in commercial property values has particularly prompted interest in the refurbishment of industrial buildings and offices as residential space. However, some observers now fear that this trend could go too far, believing that refurbishment can only be successful if it remains a niche market.
