Oak Ridge writing new industrial chapter

Article Abstract:

The city of Oak Ridge is the center of a technology hub in East Tennessee as a result of a government program to reindustrialize defense complexes that are no longer used for military purposes. Former defense research laboratory Oak Ridge National Laboratory has expanded its role into the commercial and industrial applications. The DOE has made available flexible leasing arrangements of over 200 facilities so that companies can reduce lead time for research and development. A number of companies have taken advantage of the leasing arrangements, including Southern Freight Logistics and American Technologies Inc. Oak Ridge is close to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and its research facilities.
