Pharmaceutical/biotech siting: the search for space, workers, "community" and creative financing

Article Abstract:

Pharmaceutical and biotechnological firms have adopted various measures in selecting a favorable industrial location for their businesses in order to optimize their marketing potentials. Generally, entrepreneurs put emphasis on the proximity of a particular site to customer bases and the availability of skilled workers in choosing locations. It is equally important for firms to choose sites that would help them obtain the community's support and those which offer wide-ranging investment opportunities and are conducive to creative financing.

The Lehigh valley, Pa., is on the border of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and is developing at a great speed since a lot of companies specially from the life sciences field are moving in this area, in addition to others from New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Moreover, the state and the different municipalities are offering cheap loans and various financial benefits to the companies that are planning to generate jobs in this biotech sector.

The commission, which was created in the year 1958, includes cities of Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, Biloxi and D'Iberville. The commission is primarily concentrating on creating economic opportunities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
