Political change creates new challenges for facility planning

Article Abstract:

This year's survey of state and local governments indicates that facility planners will have to closely watch whether these governments can manage funding sources and programs in light of Reagonomics and still realize economic growth. As these governments employ various methods to ensure economic growth and also take on management responsibilities for programs previously run by the federal government, industrial location analysis will face a new challenge.

Company and community benefit alike with the growth of industrial parks

Article Abstract:

A survey of industrial parks in the United States and Canada indicates that they number about 5,500, with 500 of these new in the last year. Industrial parks are becoming more specialized and efficient. One form of this efficiency is the "decoplex", a park that combines industrial development with waste processing, resource recovery and power generating.

The growth and development and evolution of industrial parks reveals a progression of design styles from the early versions which simply provided a convenient access to transport lines, to the modern multi-use industrial parks characterized by elaborate facilities including areas set aside for shopping and recreation.
